WINDOWS HANGS UP. PLZ HELP

I recently bought 256 MB DDR ram as my previously one stopped working. now after 2 month my computer hangs up after 3 to 5 minutes after windows have started.

What might be the problem. Is it because of the ram.

Should i re-install windows.

Plz help me out.

well ya try reinstalling windows xp and get sp2
now if the problem persists try getting another RAm which u doubt mebbe the reason, and plug tht stick in ur mobo n check

well i had the same prob with my 800mhz p3 processor 2 yrs back, did everything i cod to diagnose the problem and finally got a solution to my prob by changing the processor and degrading it with my spare 400Mhz processor . man i just codnt blive my processor got screwed

i just dun want to shock u but this was the case wid me

mebbe the prob which u have is jsut cause of a faulty ram mebbe theres no prob itself

My notebook never hangs... I know exactly how to keep it cool and running smoothly...

I think the RAM u got are corruped...

replace them... or look if they are will fir in or not... ???

Alive_Hunter I suggest you do a memory diagnostic such as Memtest to make sure that your RAM is indeed the problem.Or else it might be something else thats causing the crash.

Best bet wud be..... reinstall XP.....
clean ur system with anti virus scanners...adware...spybot....
update XP to SP2....

nd ya ofcourse do try the s/ware mentioned by digen...its lovely!

nd if all else fails.... Throw the mem stick on the face of retailer!!!
i sincerely hope u have its bill with u....its abt time we come across the testing of what they call "life time warranty"...

increse ur RAM and Ur cabinet Size if possible ur OS XP(SP2),, keep ur system out of dust

keep the PC open nd try it out!
or try swapping the RAM with sumone....

It could be a number of things, CPU overheating, memory modules incompatibility. I recommend you install Sisoft Sandra and determine your problem.

1.Check your RAM
2.Check your Processor Fan is running properly or not??
3.Check your system temperature also.

I tried with memtest . i allow 5 pass which indicated no errors and took more than 40 min, then i stopped it .

i even checked the temperatures. It is well within limit.

what should i do next .

My Pc hangs only twice a week!!

try the ramsticks at a friends place & run any memory intensive game of software.if it hangs get new sticks.
also u said u have 256mb ram,is it two 128 mb sticks or a single stick?
if u have 2 sticks then check out if they are of the same make.
if not xchange them.
as a last option reinstall xp.dont forget SP2.
