windows 98 installation problem

hi all
my freind has 40 gb hardisk , intel celron 1.7 processor, while installing windows 98 it shows bluescreen and gives error VMM32.VXD not found and system restarts , i tried changing hardisks thiking that its virus in hardisk or badsectos problem but it shows the same problem , tried changing windows 98 cds and used orginal cds too , but the problem remains the same , windows xp and 2000 and 2003 are working fine if i install them . changed rams too and it did not work , wat is the problem for this , how can i overcome this , i like windows 98 a lot etc , plese help me to solve this problem.

I think you must do a clean re-install. Don't install it on top of the existing installtion. Format and do a clearn re-isntall.

well seems that some File in the installation CD is missing..or some device is not Funtioning.....

VMM32.vxd is the virtual device driver library that contains virtual device driver files needed for system start up.

VMM32.vxd is different for every machine; therefore, if it gets corrupted, it cannot be copied from another computer; it'll need to be rebuilt

try to install fm other CD ..and if the problem persist ....try a clean format and then see if works....
