Win2000 profile lost

when i last worked on my PC it worked well. then my father switched it on and then power went off and improper shut down happened. When i started win2k next i was amazed to c that all the desktop icons and my local settings - favourites etc. are gone. I browsed through the Documents and Settings directory to find that there was a new profile created. My earlier profile which was xxx was saved as xxx.bak and a new profile xxx.GROUNDFLOOR was created. i want to retrieve the settings of the xxx profile. please suggest me hw to do that. copying the xxx to the new profile didnt work. it was showing some error in copying.

make some other profile .. and make it as admin..

login into that profile and preform copying again.. it will work.. and i will strongly suggest not to copy rather rename the xxx.bak to xxx . and try.. KEEP A BACKUP OF NEW PROFILE.

the error its giving because ur copying the files frm old profile to new profile which ur currently logged in.. so ur overwriting files currently in use.
