I've read on many websites with game reviews that the min. sys. reqts for games are say...128 MB with 98 and 256 with Windows XP.

Basically, I put it down to XP requiring more RAM to run apps.

However, if I run games like say...Doom III or Halflife 2 on rigs which have optimal configuration with lesser RAM however, just because I'm running Win 98, will I have acceptable performance? Or will it not do well no matter what?

No sire .. Win98 is a 32 bit OS ... Win 95 was 16 bit ...

@ Faraz ..
The system calls are different in WinXP from those of Win98 .. thats why those games wont run on Win98 ..

Well if you want the best performance then run Doom3 on Windows Me :)

Yes, I know what you are thinking- Me sucks as a general purpose OS in general- but you can use Me exclusively for playing games- It will give you the highest FPS.
