well prices in mumbai for IDE drives are
1100 - liteon
1200 - samsung
1300 - sony.

i decided to go for sony.

i wanted a SATA optical drive, but a shopkeeper said "IDE better than SATA"? also he sold SATA drives boxless for 1450, saying its made by sony.:p

So which one is better?

In disk drives, Doesnt matter much. Cos the max data transfer speed doesnt match that even of IDE. But it s better to be futureproof. Go SATA

If you would port your drive b/w your system and other systems, for example, your friend's and he doesn't have a SATA port, then it might be a problem. I faced this kind of situation numerous times, so opted for IDE. If porting the drive is not a problem, go for SATA.

If the prices aren’t much different, I would definitely go with SATA. The cables are smaller and easier to manage, SATA allows for hotswapping (if you ever care to do that), and it’s apparently faster (though I don’t really notice too much of a difference myself).

well the price of liteon extenal is around 1800 and I had checked LG external(Star Bazzar bangalore) priced exactly 2K. Both are 20x writers Lightscribe.
In local market they are pricing LG one as 3500 bucks.

Stay away from liteon drives and LG drives.

Get one that is priced lower (sata vs ide). No noticeable difference between the two except for the data cable. For no clutter inside desktop, you can go for sata.

I support desibond on this, SATA or IDE doesnt affects much, both have same builds, let see if they have more internal buffer then only its helpful, will better read/write speed. SATA will just save space.

I and I was just teling the price ofexternal burners, I really do not know how good liteon or LG are, used Sony mostly or Samsung.
