I'll suggest you to use Ubuntu Ultimate 1.6 or Linux Mint.

As you want to watch movies and listen songs, they have about all codecs installed.

ill try to
but some people say mint is buggy.what abt dat??
I didn't got errors in Mint.

But, if you are not sure, then try Ubuntu Ultimate 1.6
Bcoz it is based on Ubuntu GG (7.10), it's pretty stable.

I think u should install in virtual machine
so there will be no problems regarding filesystem, system format etc..
If u want i can tell u how to install an OS in a virtual machine step by step

Regarding ur question, I think mandriva or suse linux would be good :D
u can also use ubuntu (i havent used it)

i think thts enuf
Ubuntu 7.10 or OpenSuSE 10.3
I recommend SuSE if this is your switch from windows or if the Ubuntu is not the Offitial Release.

PS: che che what an ugly processor compared to the rest of the system...

Look, if you want something that is multimedia ready, works out of the box, try Ubuntu Ultimate or LinuxMint. If don't mind downloading a lot of packages (software installers) use OpenSuSE 10.3 or Ubuntu 7.10

I read the review of Fedora 8, and its supposed to be awsome, especially the security. The wallpaper changes by time of the day. Compiz also Rocks. Only problem is that RPM is not good enough compred to DEB. But Install it though, as anything ecept MiNT and Ubuntu uses RPM from your list.

Ubuntu is still good. Try using this month's Digit DVD(this time digit is worth buying)
Or you can download the CD iso.
Here is my latest screenshot(very easy to modify the defaults...)

but the prob is that i know the commands of onlt ubuntu based distros and those also very few.
can i get the commands of fedora in help option??

Then Use GG
Fedora 8 has compiz, you need to upgrade it online though.
MiNT is a good option
Stay away from UU 1.6 because a simple error is somehting single man distros can easily commit
commands are same in all distros. Look online.
