    Visual Basic is the best tool, if you want to build something quickly. .NET has a big learning curve and it takes a while before you get the hang of it. I guess people who are into Java and other OOP languages have little problem learning and using .NET :!:

    Almost all IDEs under Visual studio6.0 n not VStudio Dotnet.
    VB very user friendly but limited scope.
    VC++( most powerful n vast but complicated.)
    Borland Delphi.(Limited scope)
    JDK(Powerfull).
    Borland CPP Creator.

    VB is definitely the best for rapid development. but if you want quality and fine grained control I would prefer VC++ as theres no beating it in those departments.
    Also the C familyis much better that the BASIC family.

    have been using .NET for past 7 - 8 months....Its Nice....Man...and much more powerfull ..and incase..you r comfartablle with IDE of VB..then this is easy to use.....i like the BESt VC#.......Kool

    I never used it but one of my friend does and he says it's good.

    for database application i will say Delphi is the best, the leader.
    otherwise for rest other application, VB is the simplest one. C++ for complex things.
