I wouldn't go for gaim, its more than an IRC client plus, its based off GTK which you wouldn't quite enjoy.

You can go for the paid mIRC, it has lovely customizations and scripts to its credit. Alternatively you can try the more modern Hydra IRC.

Or if you'd like to mix it up with your Firefox Web Browser, get the Chatzilla add-on. Its heavy and crashes at times though.

If u r a opera user than it has got in-built decent n light chat client.

Even i use opera's IRC handler.
Its quite nifty and integrates well with the browser interface.

Plus you also get a bittorrent client, download manager, so on and so forth.........

well i use GAIM for basic chat thats it nothing to do with the nifty plugins ..well yeah it uses the GTK but yaar come on its all in one i mean like trillian i got yahoo .msn.jabber (gchat) etc so forth .. just not a system hogger .......


and it runs with linux/windows all version including VISTA !
