Ideally it should be 6600GT AGP, but I don't think the processor can harness the power of the 6600GT. Try for a 6600 256MB AGP version, if available.

will 6600GT AGP able me to play NFSMW with all eye candy on at 1024X768?? i have a 3ghz P4 rocessor....i kinda need an under Rs 8000 card which will enable me to play games for at most the coming 6 months....

@ash_dsg, this will be your best choice:

go for big or xfx 6200 256mb, wd be best for ur processor

@sahil_blues, how much RAM you have ? You got a good processor so if you have 512 MB or more, then definitely go for 6600GT 256 MB. You will simply love the results as it can run smoothly almost anything. :D

celeron is low powered, but not that low powered

go for a 6600non Ultra with 256 MB RAM, that will be best

When did Nvidia come up with 6600 Ultra ?
AFAIK there are only 3 models of that GPU -
1] 6600 GT
2] 6600 LE
3] 6600

Anyways coming back to the topic,
going for 256MB 6600GT doesnt make any sense as the memory interface for that card is 128Bit so it cannot utilise the potential of such a huge frame buffer.

128MB is cheap and fast too.

Cards with 256Bit Memory interface benifit the most with 256MB n 512MB frame buffers.

Also Celeron isnt a powerful processor,going for 6600GT doesnt make sense,i would suggest going for 6600 256MB [the NON GT] as it is cheaper also and not such a huge performance difference between that and the GT.

The only difference between the non GT and the GT is GPU clock Speed and Memory Speed.

GT has GDDR3
whereas 6600 has either GDDR1 or DDR2...

You are advising him not to buy a 256 MB 6600GT... and asking him to buy the 256 MB 6600 non-GT!?

>128 memory is only fruitful with cards more powerful than the 66GT......

get a 6600 plain 128 MB (better if u get the one with DDR2...overclocks almost to GT levels :) )

hey man listen first, 6600 is a gud card which can run ur future games ,but buying 6600 today is not gud,instead of go for 6800 gt,u will able to play games better with it.6600 runs FEAR slow.

but 6600 gt yields satisfactory results doesn't it?? also the price difference between 6600gt and 6800gt is quite a bit...

Ya it gives more than satisfactory results, just make sure u hav atleast 512 MB system RAM, with 256 MB its a little slower and jerks interrupt ur gameplay but u ll still be able to play the game at 1024x768.

Exactly! with the configuration ASH_DSG has, he should go for a 'Powercolor X300 256 MB ' because the processor will not bottleneck it,it has 256 MB of dedicated memory,it has a 128 bit wide memory BUS and its core is clocked at 400 Mhz!
Now its a lot cheaper than earlier and it is a good bet for moderate gaming.

But if you are thinking to uprade your machine then keep in mind this config:
AMD Athlon 64 3000+;
MSI RS480M2-IL;
Gainward or XFX 6600 non-GT 128;
512 MB hynix DDR RAM;
A mercury cabinet and a350 W PSU from Powersafe;
Seagate barracuda 80 GB SATA;

This a moderate priced gaming machine;If you want more powerful machine go for a XFX 6800 GS;ASUS A8N-E mobo,Some more RAM,and if you want a 3500+
