Which Dowload Manager for my Connection

My airtel GPRS connection really sucks in here....im trying to download mp3 gettin speeds of 3-5kbps in reget. its ok but there r frequent breakups in connection so no use kinda downloading @ 5 kbps then loosing connection for 5-6 seconds n then again upto 5-6 kbps and so on....

i removed reget n installed internet download manager (IDA) from digit DVD n now its got worse...upto 2 kbps n breakup continues....can ne one help me out plz.....n also suggest me which wud be d best download manager for my connection...

ps:- i also hv a proxy server conn. wit more consistancy (no breakups) but its max download rate goes upto 3-3.5 kbps n no more than that....but prob is dat i cant use it for downloads as it has lotsa banned site issues....

Of my personal experience try Flashget.. its more stable and works gr8.. co i use it all way.. no othr s/w can stand beside it..

DAP is the only one i have seen so far with automatic ftp mirror searching, nothing else does this

now using Download studio 3.0 from 3 days

so far in the last 3 days I tried many Download managers, like IDA/IDM 5/ Download studio, DAP 7.5, Getright 6 beta & so far i have found the shortcomings of all

1) DAP 7.5

Ad based, unless u buy it but no adware in it, supports automatic mirror searching, & every thing standerd from a download manager

2) IDM 5

2nd best,but not so good interface & ease of use, other then that a lot good, although no auto mirror searching & also takes over your system settings so it needs a boot after every major change

3) Internet download accelerator 4.4

The best & solid alternative to DAP 7, a compleate copy in fact but with a much simpler interface, & ZIP & RAR file preview, although no automatic mirror searching, but can be added manually

4) Flashget 1.72

3rd best, if it wasen't for the clusmy interface, i would have swicthed, too complex to configure, but once does it's compleate

5) Getright 6

Auto mirror searching, DAP like interface, but not too advanced, due to beta nature sometimes it doesn't shows files in the main window

6) Download studio

Interface, thats all, no support for mirrors,i tried downloading same file from different places & it accepted them as different files

7) FDM

Not enough features, but lightweight

So, i can clearly say from my own experience, that either use DAP 7 trial or IDA 4.4, any one of these should be the best for U

IDA can be integrated in firefox with flashgot extension

well im trying dap....but guys no 1 talking abt reget...rite now thats only one performing decent for me....downloads faster than others (abt 4-5kbps) ....got all support...mirrror searching, auto download n shutdown....integrated n network settings frm browser etc.

You can config DAP for Accelerated speed or Broadband Optimization if u use a broadband connection. It really makes a difference.

plz confirm this for my connection...itz not broadband....its satellite connection....speeds not too gr8ter than dial-up....varies from 3-7kbps at times....so will dap help me wit all stuffs?

for your needs, i would suggest DAP, but if u don't find it good, u can also use flashget 1.72, quite good

use flashget with the 30-split hack, it works great!

@dheeraj_kumar - 30 split hack isnt a bit useful in a dial-up connection I tested it, it took 5 mins instead of a 10-split's 3 mins for a file

WEll i have used DAP for 3 years . Its a great Downlaod Manager with extreme speeds .

The only worse thing is that if u get frequent disconnects or download large file ..i.e over 65 mb then the file comes as corrupt .

Finally i had to shift to IDM 5

WEll ... the speeds are a little bit faster in IDM according to my notice and experience .

The only worse thing is that it doesn't has ftp search otherwise it would be on the top of the list

No any corrupt downlaod files problem till now (downloaded over 4 gb in 5 months) using this one and one more thing i do have the same Airtel GPRS

Well i get a max speed of 5.8 KB/s

Two thing i recommend

1) Get Tweakmaster and use its gprs optimation settings...works 10 phathom deep .

2) I recommend IDM instead of DAP. IDM has insane speeds and the new GRABBER feature downlaods everything from a website according to your need . Just get an alternative ftp file search softie/website .
