Where is the "www"

I know that www=World Wide Web.But y r some sites like rapidshare.de,songs.pk,bux.to etc. not having that www in front of them.What is the significance of this www.:confused:

but u r right on DNS settings as if i dont have a DNS record for www then it wont open but i dont know or rather think so that one can run 2 different page with www.domain.com or domain.com ...

d00d dats bcos u r using either FF or Opera

try dis in IE

af.mil

and now try

www.af.mil

u will get different pages in both cases

d site is not accesed if u dont put www in IE

Now once again tell me, Do u see 2 different web site for www.af.mil and af.mil...

af.mil simply doesnt open becasue there is no DNS entry for it but under any browser af.mil doesnt give site1 and www.af.mil gives site2...

so once again if u know any other domain gives 2 pages for www and nonwww, then please post...

That depends on where your "www" dns record is pointing at. If you make it point to some other address it can serve different content! Of course, ppl don't do that 'coz rarely a website has two gateways but that doesn't mean it's not possible!

Correct me if i am wrong, you can use www1 , www2 and any other sufix you want for a Sub-domain purpose, but I dont think that at any point one can use www and nonwww in diffrerent service with different content...

once again I may be wrong... but I failed to do so by my self, and never saw any other domain which has this feature...

Cheeta check www.hostcheap.org and host4cheap.org. With www, it will go to Domain page...please check it via Proxy since DNS change can take time. Do it fast...this is my main site
