STANDBY MODE: Turns off the display, stops the hard-disk drive, and turns off other internal devices so that the computer uses less battery power. When the computer resumes operation from Standby mode, the desktop is restored exactly as it was before entering Standby mode. If the computer loses power while in Standby mode, all data that was being worked on is lost

HIBERNATION MODE: When you put your computer into hibernation, everything in computer memory(RAM) is saved on your hard disk, and your computer is switched off. When you turn the computer back on, all programs and documents that were open when you turned the computer off are restored on the desktop. Even the mouse cursor.

To enable hibernation: Control Panel--> Power Options--> Hibernate Tab--> Enable hibernate support check box--> Apply
