7600GT is lower mainstream it can play new games only at 1024*768 MED at most, games like Oblivion and GRAW , even Serious Sam 2 will not be maximum, upcoming games will be lower mainstream.

A mainstream card is meant to do 10X7 MAX no AA, that I have give n the position to 7800GT although it can't but it is more or less ok for most games.

7600GT is low mainstream....have u even used it?

In my thinking, SLI & Crossfire are just waste of money....u don't double the frame rates, but u pay double...& how much more do u need, then 60 fps anyway

your list is wrong...a 6600GT & now 7600GT are the best bang for buck...a video card now, just doesn't mean gaming performance anymore, there are added features in it, which also matters, cos everyone doesn't play games all the time. & 7600GT's time up....
clip_image001.gif
rofl dude rofl.....it will play all games fine for 2 years to come at 1024X768 easily

1024X768 with 2XQ AA & 4X Anis. Filtering is enough...to play at a monitor of 17", at 85 Hz...Hardly anyone goes beyond that in India

& 2 to 4 GB RAM, how much do u use....at 1600X1200 only, 2 GB RAM is saturated by a few games...1 GB is more then enough for games out there, most games are single core, but dual core is preferred anyway...cos as I said, it's not just the gaming u do on a computer

What makes u think a 7900GTX is good enough for one year only? remember....directX 10 games will not be out until 2008 at least....those which require pure DX10 only, & still they will have a back ported engine to DX 9c, these cards are good enough for 3 years easily...& will die at 3.5 years...I still play games on my FX5900XT which started chinking out after 2 years of buying...or 3 years of releasing. I wonder why u r keeping Geforce 7900, 7800 & X1800XT/X1900XT in mainstream section, dude they are highend

Good enough means something that can run everything maxed out, not just making the scenes run.

1900XT is high end.
7900 and 1800 256mb versions are the highest mainstreams. I can explain that.

I have played on a 7600GT and I was disappointed a bit, you can play FEAR only on 1024*768 MAX no soft shadows no AA, this is what a lower mainstream should do. Oblivion and GRAW not played on 7600GT, but won't do more than 10X7 Med, SS2(not played on a 7600GT) won't do max again, saying either by benchies or website or experience.

2GB is used by todays games even at 10X7 MAX. PERIOD go ask anyone.
4GB is a precaution, games like FEAR and BF2 releases about/over a yr back used 2gb while most people wither thought that 1gb was enough or bought just 1gb, have you tried playing with 4gb in the latest games like GRAW, maybe that is where we are missing out, maybe GRAW runs well on 4gb.

4GB is not a must as I don't have proof, but if you have the money, getting 4GB is prefered imo.

i wonder how u were not able to play fear at 1024X768, at 2XQ AA & 2X Anis on 7600GT, cos i was able to play it fine....r u sure u configured it properly

2 GB is indeed not used by games at 1024X768 but at higher resolution, BF2, benifits from it, only if u r playing on network....how do u check the games man, check again

4 GB is good, but whats the cost now? but that in 2008

4GB will be needed for many games inthe near future.

2gb is needed for quake 4 at ultra settings
FEAR needs 2gb with max settings.

@ Gaurav, were you playing FEAR with soft shadows on and everything max, I was talking with soft shadows.

Well Akshayt......
can u tell me the difference between...ultra n extreme n highend......

If we consider ur list order.....

according to u....
Ultra means - 3stars - ***
highend means - 2 stars - **
extreme means - only 1 star - *

@gxsaurav
1024X768 with 2XQ AA & 4X Anis. Filtering is enough...to play at a monitor of 17", at 85 Hz...Hardly anyone goes beyond that in India

so u said HARDLY right.....with my x1900 Gt i always play games at 1280*1024, 6X AA....all max...n tht too with butter smoot frames.....
I hope im included in ur HARDLY....

1 GB is more then enough for games out there
..LOL....say it recomended.....not enough.....I really wonder wht collection of games do u have....let me guess...Roadrash, NFS 2, Doom 1(DOS)........[Please dont get upset....i was joking] specify wht do u mean by "there"...

G

lets see

u do come in "hardly" ymhatre, the majority out there, in India playes games at 800X600 or 1024X768

I tried Qukae 4, HL 2 : Lost cost & then Episode 1, & with proper settings (custom modem cfg files, etc) it ran perfectly on 1 GB RAM, i borrowed a 6600GT AGP though for HL2 parts. Quake 4 ran fine on 1 GB and with 1.5 GB I only got 2 fps increse, but i tried it with Patch 1.05,

i played Fear on 6600GT, 1024X768, no AA & Anis, soft shadow off...& still i played it fine on 1 GB RAM, just customised the hell out of it, which i always do

& just ask any games here, which games i play & u will know about my game collection

Greetings Guys,
I'm looking for a Mid range Gfx card(as per my standards, which say that it should run all the upcoming games(for yrs max) at 1024x768 at high settings) under 9k.

Start digging. Also. Specify the cards available in India and specify their specifications. Guys , Have you heard of RTHDRBL ??? (don't google around now. Be honest) Its an uber heavy bechmark based on HDR. REALLY stresses the best there is. Check it out.

1)@ ymhatre, you have quoted gaurav's statements, not mine. Also what games do you play and at what system config, cpu and ram etc do you have?

2)kaustav geek, what you want can not come in 9k, at the very minimum double the budget and preferably 4 times that too only in dx9 mode.

3) RAM won't show you an increase in FPS in many/some cases. But stuttering will erduce/vanish and thegame will become smoother.

The best you can get on stretching your budget is 7600GT around 10.5k.
GRAW : 10X7 low to med or med
Oblivion : 10X7 med
FEAR : 10X7 MAX no AA no soft shadows
Quake 4: 10X7 High ( not ultra high)
Quake 4 and FEAR I think were released about a yr back and yet the 7600GT plays them only on these settings, so you could imagine what will happen in the months to come.
For Quake 4 I might be incorrect, try on a friends pc if you want.
By and large, you can assume that the upcoming games of this yr and beginning of next yr should mostly run at 10X7 med, with times getting tougher you will need to come down to 10X7 low to med, however if you don't want decent frame rates and are willing to compromise on gameplay then you might be able to tweak your settings to make a game run somethnig low, something me, something high, that is all that can be done. But remember than even for all this you should be having atleast 2GB ram with Amd 64 3000 or higher preferably overclocked especially for the future.

Ya i have... 6600GT is not that bad as u say it is... i have not noticed a flicker while playing any game... it is rare to find considerable drop in frame rates... though i dont play at very high details... 6600GT is certainly not that bad as u say it to be....

I too was using a 6600GT.

I read in a review at fringsquad that I think it was playing Oblivion at 800*600 low - med or so.

Also, Quake 4 runs crap, even on a 7600GT if you higer the settings.

Most Wanted too needs to be really lowered down on settings to get 40-50 fps range.

Which games are you talking of playing at very high details.

how much is a processor relevent while playing high end games...

Is X2 4200+ withh 6600gt better(which i have)
or
Is Athlon 64 3200+ with 7600 GT better(which ppl recommended me here in this forum)

rockthegod

Dark Overlord !!!
obviously 3200+ & 7600 GT will xcell !!! coz grphix card mattrs much more thn processr !!!

and regarding a 7600 GT... yup it will continue to play good with future dx9c games but wid upcoming games like Crysis, it's time will soon be quite over unless u wud luv 2 ply @ low settings !!!
