what are these zero size files ?

what are these 0 b files (zero size) ?
can they be removed ?
is it safe ? :roll:
i c them all over my winxp/sp2, inclu the system folders...

Yes 0 bytes file can be removed mostly withou any trouble .. atleast I remove it without any .. Try sysmech's cleaner to remove it .. mebbe it filters some perhaps ...

Another question which comes to mind is if the files are zero sized, why would one want to erase them as they don't consume any space? :lol:

they take space on the FS, all files do, irrespective of their size. That is, the HDD contains them and thats why u see em, each 0b file takes 4096b on NTFS perhaps

I dont think that a 0b file takes up any space
But it will take space to store its inode header i.e. you may run out of inode's to store files even though you have space to store the file

the next question then is, if they r worthless, y r they created then in the firts place by xp or the concerned application ?
