Hi
I have made a blacklist of Vodafone Karnataka numbers from which annoying automated advertising calls are made. To avoid getting calls from these numbers you must activate NDNC by calling customer care, but it takes 45 days to get activated. There have been instances of it taking longer :D In the mean time you have to put up with the calls.

How to use this list?

Nokia 33xx series phones and some other phones have an option to assign a ringtone to a particular number/caller group. Use this feature to assgin "no tone" to the above numbers, and if you cannot find the "assign tone" menu item in your addressbook, simply open a existing unwanted tone or an (empty) tone in your composer and press the 0 key once. This will make an entry 4- This is a rest note and does not make any sound. Now save this ringtone as say, silence, and go to your phone book and assign this ringtone to the above numbers.

Nokia S60 phones:
Use a free call filter and add the above numbers to the blacklist to reject the incoming call.

Another trick you can try: If your phone can play wav files or mp3 files as ringtones download and extract one of the files attached to your phone. Assign it to the above unwanted numbers. The files contain 10 seconds of silence generated with Audacity :)

Updates to the above list and suggestions are most welcome

Also, those of you who own SE CID49/36 and/or DB2010 and DB2020 phones can apply the whitelist-to-blacklist patch (if available for your phone model and firmware) and automatically block the above mentioned numbers; as I do :)

I'm not sure, but I think you can also add these numbers to the screened nos. list in your phone settings. Don't know how it works, but probably it shouldn't allow calls from these numbers.. :)

Yes, it depends on the make & model. If you could mention them as above it would be useful

How does this NDNC blacklisting work? Once I get it activated, do I need to specify each number to them? Is it done through their site ndncregistry.gov.in?

In my w800i. I have a patch that allows me to maintain a blacklist. If any of these numbered guys call me, all they would get is busy signal.

AFAIK, when advertising/telemarketing people want to call a number, they check if your number is there in the registry. If its there, you wont get the call.

Do I need to specify each number or can I mention I don't want to receive any calls from any telemarketing guys? For example, if I don't want to receive any calls from telemarketers offering loans, credit cards etc., can I mention that or do I need to say I don't wish to receive any call from the numbers 1111111,2222222 etc.?

^^No no... Not like that. Telemarketers check in the NDNC registry if YOUR number is registered. If your number is present then they wont call. The only number needed is yours!

^^^ the simplest way is to call customer care and tell them that u wanna register ur no. in the NDNC registry.
u can also go to Airtel/Vodafone/etc websites and register. i was given a TAT of 45 days. that was upto 11 December 2007. so havent received a call since then.
the ndncregistry.gov.in website never loads. it was useless for me.

yes the best way is to update the number with the service provider, i called airtel customer care to disable mine and afaik that would be enough. one can also update numbers from the service provider's website and that would also make sure that you will not receive calls from any telemarketers...
