utility of fireware

please any one can tell me that whta is the utility of fireware port other than connecting an external HDD or connecting a handycam through DVcable

it was supposed to b faster and better than usb, but usp is far too popular as of now... but it's newer and better

I use Firewire to transfer files between my Mac Mini and my father's laptop. It rocks

Much better and faster than USB. Mine is Firewire 400 mbps(bits).

Firewire 800 which is on the pro macs supports data transfer upto 800 mbps(bits)
