USB to LAN does not work

my PC has 2 LAN cards
1) to connect to the internet gateway(via tataindicom)
2) to connect to my other PC thru cross wire

the above 2 work fine.

now i need to connect my PC to my bro's laptop.
I purchased a "USB to LAN" device and a cross wire cable.
thru this i connected my PC to my bro's lappy.
immediately the "USB to LAN" device and LAN in my bro's laptop glow to show they are connected and the device n wire are working fine.

i set ip addresses to both the LAN cards 192.168.0.2 (PC) and 192.168.0.35 (laptop). default gateway and DNS for the lappy as 192.168.0.2 .

whn i ping there is no response frm either side. DISABLED firewall. still no response.
any idea wat the reason is???

If ur seeing both the lan connection in LAN connection setting than u need to bridge the two connection.

i dont keep all machines on all the time ...
it doesnt allow me to bridge the connections. why do you say i will need to bridge the connections??
