I had updated my bios two days ago (don't know why :D)..!! since then I am unable to use my USB ports.. Device manager does not show an entry for USB controllers at all. I tried to check if the bios had disabled USB. But the bios screen shows me zero options under USB configuration. :( How do I make the USB ports working?? I haven't opened the CPU case recently, so I am assuming that there is some problem in the drivers / bios only..!!

My sys config..:
Pentium 4 2.4GHz
Intel 845 GVSR MoBo
2 x 256MB DDR266 RAM
80GB HDD
1.44" FDD
Sony Combo Drive
Samsung 17" monitor
Logitech KB & optical mouse
Creative Soundblaster 7.1 soundcard
Creative 5.1 speakers
Numeric 600KVA UPS

surely this problem is caused due to uncompatible bios!!!!!if u have installed a correct bios ,,try getting some driver software for ur usb port!!!if it is intel,,it will be wazily available in intel website...
also try to flash back ur bios to previous one and look whether usb is working or not..

Read the 'Readme' of the Bios Update next time. It is an old problem. You need to reset the bios to default. Everything will be fine after it. I recollect, in one of the BIOS upgrade, the ps/2 mouse used to stop working. Had to be given a similar treatment.
