USB flash drive does not detect in win XP

i have windows xp.i have a umax usb pen drive 256mb.when i connected this pen drive in usb port my operating system does not detect automaticaly & shows new hardware found install software when i m
trying to install software automaticaly it shows no software found for this device why?but in win ME,NT,XP pen drive install software automatically.
Please Help. :(

Goto device manager -> usb controller , if its yellow marked , delete entry and reinstall.
May be that can help.

The device might not be supporting PnP or Plug and Play.
Fors such devices, you dont need any drivers.
Check the documentation or the packet of the drive to see if the feature is supported or not.
If not, get the drivers.

Alternatively, just for assurance,
Go to Run... and type services.msc

Scroll down to the service named "Universal Plug And Play Device Host" and ensure its status is either Manual or Automatic.
