One more query :-

We can convert internal HD into external USB one by adjusting into the 'case' which is available commercially.

Can we do the same for internal DVD burner? Can internal DVD burner be used as external usb by adjusting in a 'case'?

i doubt that the possibiliy exists with optical drives...it could be though...otherwise a sony external costs around 8-9k

so you cannot convert internal dvd burner into external using the 'case' which is available for hard disk for same purpose?

ok... heres a short note ... might be help to some of you

got 300 GB IDE Seagate Baracuda (Rs 6200) + External USB Casing Rs 2500

got Lite on 16x internal dvd burner 2500 + External USB casing Rs 2500

Both are working fine with my laptop. Have burnt almost 45 dvds in 2 days on the writer ... not a single dvd gave problem. all workin fine.

each dvd took less than 9 minutes which i think is amazing speed for a external writer.

there are some issues with external casing especially if u buy the cheap Rs800 ones. they can burn only cds while give error while burning dvds. so its better to invest in the costly(Rs 2500) ones. its still much cheaper than buying a proper external dvd burner which costs around Rs 11K

hope this helps.

i dont think those are issues with the cheap ones.... here is what i think is the reason...

some people purchsed USB 1.1 casings and used them as external drives... not it worked fine while writing a CD because a CD typically requires less data transfer speed while writing and usb 1.1 served the purpose.... but a dvd requires more than that and USB 2.0 is required....
so basically it's not a problem with case being cheap or costly....

now since all costly ones come USB 2.0 there are no issues

true..the dvd writes so much data at once, a USB 1.1 couldn't keep up...i would hope though that firewire is avaliable as well..its way faster then either..

and as for external hdd.. i believe that investing in an original is much better...they might end up costing close to 8-9k but they are worth it...
