1) What is difference between original intel motherboard and gigabyte, Msi ,Asrock etc motherboards.

2) 915 motherboard supports win 98 or not .If not which one supports
i know 845 supports. so if 915 does not support which one support 865 etc

3)Can i install 2 Gb or more ram in win 98

4)915 motherboard has which graphics
Intel extreme graphics, Intel extreme graphics 2 or which one.
i can run games on 845 motherboard without graphics card .
so what will be performance of 915 motherboard.

5)If win 98 does not support 2 gb ram and if 915 does not fully support win 98
then if i convert Fat32 to Ntfs will there will be data loss.Does win 98 comes with the utility to convert.

6) Does sony 810 A DVD Writer or 800 A can run on win 98 and what about samsung

1.Your question isnt exactly direct... The chipset is the component that basically makes up your motherboard.. Its divided into 2 main parts.. First you have your NorthBridge (controls most primary functions) and your Southbridge (the left over good'ins) Your chipset carries a very common name im sure such as Intel 815G 865G 925x 915G : AMD (no longer making chipsets) Usually with an AMD setup you will have a 3rd party chipset such as VIAK8T800 or VIA KM-266.. Among the more popular AMD compatible chipsets are by nVidia such as Nforce 2 etc... I hope this helps you further identify what a chipset actually is and to further your knowledge of computer components!!

2.915 dose not supports 98.I use 865 GBF it supports 98.

3.It’s an urban legend. From time to time you’ll see
postings claiming that Windows 98, SE, ME, NT, 2000 (take your pick)
can recognize only 64MB, 128MB, 256MB, or who-knows-how-many megabytes
of memory. In fact, all modern versions of Windows can handle 2GB of
memory; far more than most of us are likely to encounter in the
foreseeable future.
There’s one minor gotcha, though: A bug in Windows 95, 98, SE, and ME
crops up if you have more than 512MB of memory installed. The part of
Windows that moves files in and out of the main computer sets aside
enough memory so it can work with big files, and if the amount of
available memory is large, the memory chunk that’s set aside is large,
too. Unfortunately, if the amount of available memory is huge—more
than 512MB-the file—handling routines can grab so much memory that
nothing is left for more mundane functions. Paradoxically, if Windows
hits this bug, it may report the problem to you by saying “There is
not enough memory available to run this program. Quit one or more
programs, and then try again. Or it may hang completely.
To warn Windows that you have more than 512MB of memory installed, add
the following line to the [VCache] section of your win.ini file:
MaxFileCache = 524288."

4.Refer in www.intel.com

5.No win98 supports only FAT and FAT32 file format.

6.Refer in www.sony.co.in.

Thanks rajas700 and q3_abhi
for answering my questions

6) actually sony dvd writer page says it is compatible with win 2000 and win xp
so i dont know what to do
only the person who had installed dvd writer over win 98 can say it.

5)If i convert Fat32 to Ntfs will there will be data loss.where to get this utility to convert. does OS has utility to convert.

and
3) u have provided steps for 2 gb for win 98
for adding line.
line to the [VCache] section of your win.ini file:
MaxFileCache = 524288."

does then win 98 use 2 gb without any problems.

well Amitagarwalo2 I am afraid that converting from fat32 to Ntfs is possible and is very easy BUT

converting Ntfs to fat32 is not possible, atleast windows XP officially does not allow you to do this, which simply means there is no tools or commands in windows XP (all versions) to do this.

Third party software may claim to do this, but remember that this is not possible, and you may render your PC useless! No software vendor as a full proof software to do this. Even System Machinic Warns you before you perform this task.

ok here is the board you are looking for but let me tell you this is a BTX form factor board by Intel. I am afraid you will have to run pillar to post for this board since in India it is not very popular.

Two IR Blaster connectors to provide support for remote control of set-top boxes

*********
There are other micro ATX boards also which supports 8 channel audio but you will not get the Graphics onboard on this cards.

For example :D925XEBC2 and D915PBL, D915GMH, D915POM/D915GOM, D925XCV, D925XBC, D925XECV2

this are all Intel original boards you can look for the details on this boards on the Intel's website --- www.intel.com

Good Luck

@AMITAGARWAL02

ok let me first tell you that what i said about the on board graphis for the board D915POM does not have on board support. And also various other board with 8-channel audio does not have on board support, that's as simple and this. Do you understand it now ?

And about the BTX form factor, hi... hi... that's not a new kid in town, its an old type of form factor which intel has started again using it. It is sometimes also known as baby AT . What it basically means is : the board has a different kind of orientation in the chassis or cabinet. The long axis goes from the back to the front of the cabinet. If you can read properly i had mentioned in my above post the size of this type of board - 10.50 inches by 10.40 inches [266.70 mm by 264.16 mm].

Now I hope you understand this also. Again I hope you understand what an ATX and a microATX boards are. ...... by the way are you going to assemble the new board yourself ? I am afraid that if you have no idea as to how to do this then better take professional help since this boards from intel have a different type of processor slot - LGA 775 and is completely different from its previous chipset boards.

Ok now comming to the point.

Look for this board, it has everything you want or one can afford to have.

Thanks again for helping me
i saw this for 945GTP motherboard.

Audio
8-channel (7.1) audio subsystem with five analog audio outputs and one S/PDIF optical digital audio output using the Sigmatel 9223 audio codec

6-channel (5.1) audio subsystem with three analog audio outputs using the Sigmatel 9220 audio codec
so i have to use Sigmatel 9223 audio codec to get 8 channels.is this available

ofcourse not i will not assemble computer
i previously had 166 that is pentium 1 and 600 that is pentium 3
i know ATX and non ATX cabniet

i want iball cabniet will it support 945GTP or D915GOM motherboard
if yes which one to purchase from the two motherboard
also i think the 2 boards will be good in onboard graphics

i know Intel® Extreme Graphics but i think Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 950 is much better than this

also my dealer says and many says they have only 3.0 processors not above

so can i tell him to put 3.0 or any processor in 945GTP or D915GOM motherboard thanks.I also find D945GCZ and D945GNT and D945PVS supports 8 channel sound.i am very confused which to choose also intel didnt provide to compare it only provide like 945G or 945P types of comparsion. Also after if i choose GTP then there are 4 models of GTP
they are
D945GTPL D945GTPLKR D945GTPLR LA D945GTPL D945GTPLK

soory i am confused because many new boards are appearing
soory i know i am giving headache to all but help me to choose best board for audio and onboard graphics
thanks
soory for the trouble

Well I think for motherboards now you will have to decide for yourself, as far as I think 945GTPLKR is good.

Now, processor - well if you like you can put the 3.0GHz one, and i think it will have HT also , so you can get it.

Now, iBall cabinet, huuu... for this looks also matter so buy it but remember to have at least 2 fans and if possible buy a AIRGUIDE cabinet.

Presscot processors by intel heats to much. If you see my signature I have the same one on this computer of mine.

And yes, what ever you decide to buy please tell me which motherboard, you bought and also tell the price of it, as i am also planning to buy on for my old PC.

PM me.

can we convert Ntfs to fat 32 also

also can win xp home or professional edition can be installed on fat 32 by any method

Yes there is a software which can do this

Partition Magic

To install win xp pro on a fat32
at the time of installion it asks to format the partiton either with ntfs or with fat32

just choose fat32 and you are done

but remeber first to copy all the data from that partition to other partition since this partiion will be formatetd and the data will be no more

Thanks
