Hey friends my friend wants to upgrade his PC.,,
His current specs are
P4 ,2.40 Ghz
256 MB ram
40 GB HDD
64 MB Onboard graphics
845 G Intel motherboard..

He wants to upgrade and I adviced him that b4 you do any upgradation upgrade your motherboard first. I hope I am right. So what the question is that he needs a motherboard which has DDR 2 and Sata support.
And the price limitation i upto Rs.3000. And he is not going to change the CPU. SO friends give some advice here :D

If you upgrade your motherboard, you'll need to upgrade your Processor (From socket 478 to 775 for the newer boards) AND get new DDR2 (DDR1 don't fit on DDR2 slots) RAM modules. That's definitely not in your budget. The motherboard itself would set you back by that amount.

Alright then the Old CPU will be of no use , if i get a new Mobo. Alright then i will ask my friend what is his budget again. And I think that he can spare some Rs.10000 for the total upgrade. So according to that he will be able to spare some Rs.6000 for the mobo+processor combined. Now what will be the best bet

Asus M2NMX SE for 2.6k or MSI K9AGM2 for 2.4k nd AMD Athlon X2 4400+: 3.6k

Best deal for 6k. Decent onboard GFX + decent proccy.

proccy means processor.

M2NMX SE:
nvidia 410 chipset
onboard nvidia 6100 graphics with shader model 3.0
gr8 mother board

MSI K9AGM2:
ATI 690G based bomo
Onboard ATI X1250 graphics with shader model 2.0 [but performs much better than n6100 in all games].
g8r motherboard nd performs better than M2NMX.

Ok then I will opt for this then
MSI K9AGM2:
ATI R600 based bomo
Onboard ATI X1250 graphics with shader model 2.0 [but performs much better than n6100 in all games].
g8r motherboard nd performs better than M2NMX.

what is the graphics memory in terms of size, i mean 64 MB or something like that

X1250 can have max 1GB graphics memory + 256 MB xtra texture memory if u have enuf ram and u can also go as low as 64MB.

But the main drawback for MSI K9AGM2 is it has got only 2 mem slots.
Asus M2A VM is also 690G based mobo, but more features nd overclocking features. Itll cost u 3k, nd has 4 memory slots.

Both of them support max DDR2 800 Mhz. M2A supports max 8GB memory nd K9AGM2 supports max 4GB.
