hello frnds
I've a peculiar problem in vista(home premium)
From the time the OS gets fully loaded the CPU usage reaches 100% and memory usage goes up to 70%.. am using 2.2 ghz core2duo processor and 2 gb ram..
this problem occurs for the past 1 week..i dint install any new software for this time..i tried even restoring the system to previous good working point but ended in vien..
the process called svchost.exe mainly consumes the cpu as well as memory from start till shut down(saw in Task Manager)..even photoshop takes nearly 10 min to load coz of this...
i've never experienced such one even in my another pc which is p4 with 512 mb ram using XP.
as i cant attach the snipped image am giving the description..
name: svchost.exe
user name: SYSTEM
desc: host process for windows services..

this thing is bugging me..:(
cant work with my project smoothly..it is like using a pentium3 cpu with 64 mb ram..
plz help me out ..

dear rahulrajen...
firstly having an antivirus doesnt mean u r free from viruses..
u can use an old version of antivirus but what is necessary is an UPDATED VIRUS DATABASE.. is ur mc afee Virus database updated..????

secondly, though m not sure whether ur system has virus, lemme tell u one thing that Vista indeed uses high memory resources!!!
[[[ am i correct guys?? ]]]
nevertheless do post a hijachthis log.. get it from www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis

i hav uptodate virus database for McAfee..:)..i've never experinced such one in vista before 1 week...normally the cpu usage wud be between 0 to 5% and memory usage will be 25% wen the system in idle..even wen i run photoshop or avid movie editor the cpu usage has never crossed 60%..:!:..but now my system's idle cpu usage is 100% constant and ram usage is 60%..just one process consumes them all...i dono wat induces svchost process to do so...:(

here is the Hijackthis LOG file...

disable following processes...
u might get a system boost..
Taskeng.exe
Taskeng.exe is Windows Task Agent
aka Windows scheduler
Goto The Run Menu (Shortcut - Windows Logo + R)
type in: services.msc
Look For : Task Scheduler
Open it up and change from automatic to Disabled
Also make sure:
Run Menu
Type: msconfig
under services tab
Look for and uncheck Task Scheduler
Reboot, and no more taskeng.exe to lag up ur pc.

searchfilterhost.exe
Dwm.exe [[CAUTION: this file is used by the Aero interface of vista]]

well apart from that i dont find any other process.. memory heavy..
