is it possible to practice unix commands on windows without actually installing unix/linux, by using something like a simulator? are there any good unix simulators available?

Besides there are a few unix utilities available for windows. i have used text utuilities like grep, cat,etc on linux. Also, wget and lynx. So, if any linux software has a windows port they can be placed in your PATH and used directly from CLI, too.
Cygwin that pathiks gave is better in some respects but still it's an emulator, so a native port of any application will work better than using via an emulator.
