    NO

    YES (most probably)

You will start with the live CD. Afterwards you will have an option to install on HD (recommended).

    All the best!

    Cheers,
    Keith

Err Keith,if my memory serves me right then there are 2 types for Ubuntu,Live CD as well as Install CD.Ofcourse you can install from the Live CD but that would depend on which CD he has got.Doesnt matter much

Anyways it should work both ways. :)

Windows and Linux are diffrnt OS.so dont expect U can do every wingsas things in GNU/Linux.but U can use wine software for win32 emulation.Try Ubuntu and Use GNOME UI.its the Original UI by Free Software developers.KDE is a mock of windows and fails more often apart from its eyecandy.Have a look @ opensource section for GNOME and XGL magic working will give windows Waista(Vista) a run for money!.

Absolutely right. I was thinking Mepis. And, that's what I prefer over Ubuntu.

Looks like you posted in the wrong section!! Anyway definitely Ubuntu will run fine
on your laptop. Run the Live CD and see it for yourself.
