@Gary, Looks like driver compatibility problem. Look at the error message
"xvoutput: No XVIDEO port found which supports YUY2 images"
Give your GC details & specs.

@Gary, If a package is available in RPM format (Suse ,Mandriva ,Fedora ) , then
download it. You can install the 'alien' package & convert the RPM package to
Debian package!! As simple as that!!
$ sudo apt-get install alien
$ sudo alien <Package>.extension
like 'sudo alien package.rpm'
It will convert the RPM package to Debian automatically.
Also there seems to be a bug like @Prakash said. And it can be fixed
with a little patience.

Also run glxgears from the Terminal Window
Check for any jerkiness.

First of all I would like to make clear that I do not work for Ubuntu but I am only a volounteer here on the forums.

I have never used a VIA card and (since I'm not a developer) I would not know how much time it will take to fix the bug. And I doubt that the problem will be solved in Ubuntu Dapper.

Ubuntu is not inferior to any other distro but I think that Fedora Core 5 includes a more recent driver for your card (which might solve your problem). Fedora's policy is that of providing you always with the latest software. Ubuntu's policy is different (updates are provided only if they fix security issues).

I suggest you to stick with Fedora for now (which is a very good distro) and try the next release of Ubuntu (Ubuntu Edgy 6.10) which will be released in October. Ubuntu Edgy it is likely to have the latest version of the driver which you need.

Ok then. @Gary, you have two options. Either wait for the next release of Ubuntu
(Ubuntu Edgy 6.10) or try Fedora 5.
