wud applying new thermal compound reduce the temperature greatly ...??


i am havin temp issues with ma card and had posted it earlier.....

am planning to get some thermal compoud........

my 6800gs goes upto around 90 when playin games.........

yeah! Applying thermal paste reduces the temps by almost 10 degs......

Get a AS5 or something...remove the stock HSF and apply it on the core...and put it back together..

how do i clean the core ???...

cleaning the heatsink wud be easy...but how do i clean the core ??

so..that makes the temp go down to 80...maybe 75...but that aint good right ??? :(

when i play halflife 2 episode 1 at max settings....i mean the max recommended for a card (which includes antialising 2x).......there is no much prob....except for certain explosion........during these explosions i can c chess boards...:(

Well 75 for a 6800GS is good enough!......what do you want 42????...

Well removing the Heatsink is very easy just be careful.
First remove the HSF and clean the Core with a piece of cotton and remove the existing thermal paste then apply a thin,even layer of AS5 or any other Th. Paste...

so.....75 aint that high a temp.....?????

well then...,maybe the thermal comp shud do.....

lemme try it....

my ambient temp is around 60....

and which cleaning solution shud i use......isopropyl alcohol might be a gud solution but wher do i get it from ??????.....

Follow instuctions on how to Apply AS5 on this page...

the cleaning instructions on these pages will be the same for any type of Heat Sink compound. Get good quality Acetone and IsoPropyl Alcohol - any impurities in these solutions can cause loss of heat transmission. Dont use Nail Polish Remover instead of Acetone as it contains some additive perfumes and oils which create a barrier to heat transmission.

A lint free cloth will be any clean old discarded vest which has been washed often.
