The cheapest slider ever, but is it any good? Well read on and find out for yourself!

Key Features-
• Small and Compact
• 65k colors screen
• VGA camera with flash
• External Speaker
• Up to 6 hrs of Voice Recording
Inside the box-
• Handset
• 500 MAH Battery
• Booklet
• External Speaker
• Necklace Handsfree

Build-
The phone is made of not so sturdy plastic, except for the area surrounding the screen. Right below the screen are the call and end keys, correct key, 4-way pad, and 2 softkeys. On the right side, the camera button and the handsfree/external speaker port is located and the left side has the usual volume up and down keys. On the back, starting from the left, Flash, Camera and then mirror. The phone is really small, sized at 85 x 43 x 22 mm, the Samsung E630 is one of the smallest sliding phone, certainly smaller than the Samsung D500, E800 family and D410. The phone looks nice, but the sliding system is a disappointment, it’s rough and completely manual, not semi-automatic like most of the other Samsung slider’s.

Display-
The display of the phone is no bigger than the E700, sized at 128 x 160 pixels and showing 65k colors, the display is good. Brightness can be adjusted, but even at the highest level, the display is not bright enough for me, but suits other people well. While typing numbers from the keypad, the numbers are big, just like all the other Samsung’s. The display pattern used is like that of the older Samsung phones, i.e. the date, time and the operator name shows up within the area devoted to wallpapers. So the screen on standby mode seems all jammed up. Screensaver’s cannot be set , also, the phone goes into a position where only the time, date and operator name is visible while in standby mode. The phone, as expected, lacks theme’s and has 4 pre-defined ‘skins’ and more cannot be downloaded.

Software-
The software used here, again is almost the same as the older Samsungs, except that it has a 9 icon display in the menu. Functionally, the E630 is almost the same as the X600, the only difference being the 9-icon display in the menu, Voice Recording and the screen difference. Voice recorder is good and easy to operate. The major drawback is that the 4-way pad cannot me customized; it is pre-defined, again, like the older Samsung models. The phone does not have an mp3 player or video playback capabilities and thus, cannot play music or videos. The phone cannot accept .amr files via the computers infra-red port either, so basically the only way infra-red can be used is if you are using the Samsung software, i.e., easy studio. The phone does have 20 megabytes of memory, and 3 Megabytes for java, but for no use for most people because the only way java games and applications can be installed is via WAP. The software on the phone is stable, but not as good as I expected. The phone also supports Hindi, Tamil, Marathi, Bengali and Punjabi languages.

Connectivity-
One word describes the connectivity, Disappointing. The phone has an infra-red port, but cannot be used with other phones. The only way it can be used is with the Samsung software. The phone obviously lacks Bluetooth. Even though the phone offers GPRS connectivity and MMS, it’s still not up to the mark.

Messaging-
Keys, amazing for messaging, software, a nightmare for messaging! T9 has to be turned off EVERY time you have to type a message, same irritating stuff as the X600 etc. MMS is offered and settings can be received over the air.

Call Features-
The phone has a loudspeaker and can be turned on while in a call with the touch of a button, easy to use there. The phone also comes with an external speaker which is handy when on the loudspeaker, no use otherwise.

Camera-
The phone has a VGA camera and is up to the mark. Multi-shot mode is available. Also, Frames and Effects can be added while taking pictures. The flash is useful during the night and can be started by the press of a button. Zooming while taking photos is a breeze, no size adjustment like the D500. Sadly, the phone lacks video recording.

Ringtones-
The phone supports midi and mmf ringtones, but no amr ringtones, which means that recorded sounds cannot be set as ringtones, which is sad since the voice recorder on the phone is really nice. Another drawback is that the phone does not ring and vibrate at the same time, like in most phones of other brands, only the especially created mmf files make the phone ring and vibrate at the same time.

Privacy-
The phone can be locked, as in while starting up the phone will require a password to be activated. Also, Images, sound, multimedia messages and music can be locked, which might prove to be a useful feature for some.

Conclusion-
Pros--
• Small, sleek and good looking
• Loudspeaker with external speaker
• Up to 6 Hours of voice recording
• Good camera
Cons-
• Modern day multimedia functions like mp3 playback missing
• No video recording or playback
• Rough Sliding System
• Minimal Customization
• No vibration with most ringtones
The phone is good looking; no doubt about it, but according to me, Samsung has done a lazy job with the sliding and the software. The software is almost the same which leaves most of us sad because the customization level is minimal. On the whole, the Samsung E630 is the Samsung X600, with a bigger screen, voice recording capabilities and a sliding design. At Rs.12000(New Delhi), its a good buy for a person looking for something stylish, but for the normal users, i would not reccomend it.

Hmm.... Good review there,hbk88in! U have highlighted this time around!

Samsung should have named this phone D500 and the other one D640!!

Anyone this phone don't seem to have much of features but for
1. Camera with flash (and no video recording?). Flash takes up a lot of battery usage.
2. 65k colors (and lol, even C100 has a 65k colors)

Just for ppl who like sliding thing (even the slider is rough u say?)
