My machine P3 866 Motherboard 815 .. is rebooting automatically at the initial screen after Power On Self Test (POST) screen when the screen shows "Starting Windows" and the Progress bar moves from left to right. The OS is Windows 2000 SP4.

I cant figure out whether its problem with Windows or its a Hardware Problem. Or maybe a virus ?

I have some Important data in the machine. So I dont think Formatting is a viable Option.
In case this doesnt have a solution ..
Would intalling Windows XP/Win 2000 help ? I think my files would be saved like this..

O god .. the system is not even starting to Safe Mode ...
i thought I would try and run some tool but the Windows is not starting at all.
It reboots at the same place. Right at the end of the Progress Bar , just before the login screen !!

1. While booting, before the system boots into XP, press F8 , you will be presented with various options for starting windows. Select the start with the last known good option.

If that does not work

2.Boot using your Windows XP Cd and choose repair installation.

If even that does not work, there seems to be some hardware error.

3. Open you CPU cabinet and remove and attatch the RAM again and check all the connections again.
Try resetting CMOS and check if it works.

When you say that Use Win XP boot CD, do u assume that the system has XP ?
My system has win 2000 SP4, do u still think I should use the XP Boot Cd ?

No, do not do that EVER!!!

I am not used to 2000 SP4, so i do not know if it supports Repair installations.

Try out checking the hardware and the last known good state.

No Problemo!!!

If it was a Virus Problem , you better secure your system this time with some secure protection.
