hi everyone,

im running out of space on my current Western Digital 250gb hard disk (SATA).

i want to buy an additional hard disk. Here are my queries...

1. Should i go for another 250 gb Western Digital to get good performance? I wont be RAIDing it for sure.

2. I am impressed with reviews of the Seagate 7200.11 series of HDDs, are these better than western digital? (Earlier i chose WD in place of the 7200.10 series from seagate)

3. Please correct me if I am wrong but it is not mandatory to have all hard disks of the same storage size and make/model while using together without RAID. correct?

4. Does my mobo have SATA 1 or SATA 2? And, Does it matter?

5. Whats the best i can get for Rs. 2500 - Rs. 3000.

i think nowadays people look at larger hdd with the fall in price.
for your info from review older seagate 250gb 7200.10 is slower than 320gb 7200.11

2. I am impressed with reviews of the Seagate 7200.11 series of HDDs, are these better than western digital? (Earlier i chose WD in place of the 7200.10 series from seagate)
from 320gb hdd review yes..seagate 7200.11 st3320613as seem like better than westerndigital wd3200aks

3. Please correct me if I am wrong but it is not mandatory to have all hard disks of the same storage size and make/model while using together without RAID. correct?
you are not wrong in thinking that way

4. Does my mobo have SATA 1 or SATA 2? And, Does it matter?
your mb spec says "6 xSATA 3 Gb/s ports"
which means it is sata II..i dont think it matter as it will use slower speed of sata I if sata 2 is not supported..designed to be backward compatible

5. Whats the best i can get for Rs. 2500 - Rs. 3000.
Seagate ST3320613AS barracuda 7200.11 16mb buffer [Chip Best Value Oct 2008]
