For 20K could u guyz suggest a good proc.(AMD) with MOBO and good pci-e gfx card. Want to play DOOM3 at high setting. If you could suggest a mobo which supports DDR and not DDR2, then it would be fine as my friend already has 2gb ddr 400 RAM.
Well his current config is as follows:
P4 2.0Ghz
I think 845 mobo
Seagate 80 gb pata hdd
400W Coolermaster SMPS
2GB DDR 400 RAM
DVDROM ,CD-RW, FDD, etc.
So could he use HDD with new mobo?

ofcourse he can use that HDD wid it untill & unless its givin sum problem.none of the mobo for AMD support DDR2 so thats not the issue,u can use the ram.

well i dont think its possible to get a SLI for 20k where proc and decent gpu is also included.any decent brand SLI mobo will come around 8-9k atleast.and i really dont think getting a SLI mobo is worth, instead of 2 gpu i feel one shud get 1 very good gpu like 6800GT/ above.

Thanks again. Will have to go hunting for the stuffs that u have mentioned.
Just by curiosity want to ask one more thing, I have P4 3.0GHz + 1GB DDR 400 RAM + 865GBF mobo+6600gt 128mb, so how do u think ur given config compare to mine existing config(regarding gaming). Once again thanks from my friend also.

yea ofcourse there will b performance diff between AMD and ur frndz intel rig,AMD will b much better while gaming.but that intel system isnt bad either if u want u can also do one thing get him 6800GT agp which will come around 20k and and will work very well and u dont need to change all that.else u can anywayz go for AMD which literally ROCKS.

hey read this in the AMD site

AMD athlon64 3200+ (939 pin)
has a 512kb L2 cache

and the
AMD athlon64 3200+ (754 pin)
has a 1mb L2 cache

now which one is better & for wat applications

give me proper scientific reasons !!!

Hey man,
u are talking about the clawhammer core...
u might be talking about one of these

so these have 1Mb L2 cache.... and is clawhammer core...
as u can see this is on 130nm die...
ok for u guys info...

No it is not better than the newer venice cores..

PERFORMANCE IS THE SAME FOR ALL AMD Athlon 64 3200+ NO MATTER WHAT CORE, WHAT SOCKET etc...

I've told this many times over earlier....

But there are other factors than performance at stock speeds... like overclockability, instruction support, memory controllers, in which venice core is better than the Clawhammer u are talking about....

nothing wierd...

a 754 pin 3200+ is 2.2Ghz...
a s939 3200+ is 2.0Ghz..

so ... what does this mesn... a 2.0Ghz proc on s939 gives equal performance as 2.2Ghz proc on s754

What's the price of AMD64 3200+ 939 pins?
Is there a huge difference between performance of 3000+ and 3200+?
As u can see he has a budget of 20K and he also has to buy a good mobo (maybe A8N-E) and GFX CARD.(6600gt 128mb PCI-E).

Any other suggestion for mobo, proc (AMD) and gfx within 20K.
