For max 10k, u wont get a good cam... forget optical zoom above 3x.
Try the Sony cameras. They r good. Check out the CHIP mag this month. It has a camera review feature.
Well, it's best value cameras were the Kodak EasyShare C663 for ~10.5k & Samsung Digimax S500 for ~9.5k.

Below 10k, mayb only Samsung & TechCom ones r available. Though I won't recommend u to go for them.

I am not a professional or want very high end photographs..
I just want to use that for basic indoor and outdoor photographs..

There won't be any camera within this budget..???

hey shymana , since u r an amateur u really dont need those 10x, 12x opti-zooms . Any 3/4 x optical zoom is sufficient . Also 5 or 6 megapixel is more than enough . u can print 4'' by 6" with 3 mgpxl with 5 u can go even beyond 5" by 7" which is more than sufficient in ur case .

1 non optical zoom camers from Kodak/ Tech-com - 5/6K -NOT RECOMMENDED ( 1 shud have optical zoom )

2 around 10k ( + 500 or - 200 ) - u have models from Sony ( cybershot ) , Canon , Kodak .My frnd recently bought Canon at 10k 4x Opti zoom , 5 mgpxl.

I remember these specifications - ( dont rem the model nos , but rough details )

Sony Cybershot -10k , 3x opti zoom , 6mg pxl
Canon -9800 , 4x opti zoom , 5 mg pxl
kodak easy share- around 10 k , similar specs .

All these models can serve ur purpose . They will be providing some other stuuf like carry pouch , memory etc . So factor that in as well. Sony can use only Sony memory sticks , hence my frnd went for Canon . All 3 r good . Get a good demo , take pix frm same angle, same distance n compare . get them shown on the PC monitor too . And see them printed , my frnd actually paid for this n compared the pix before deciding . there was hardly a difference though !
The LCD screens r 2.5 - 3 '' 9 as i remember ) . Hope this helps .Update me on what u finally settle for n also post some pix if possible .

Sony Cybershot

And what I said r all showroom prices.
U can try the grey market for lower prices.
My say - go for a Sony CyberShot, cost no bar.
Check out camera reviews in popular mags. There r good photography mags too. Better/Smart Photography to name 2. They've good reviews. Read & obey.

Sony Cybershot

thanks for such a nice..suggestion..

I think Canon will best suite me..with its compartibility with nearly all sorts of memory cards..(less than the sony pro)..also the optical zoom is sufficient and the megapixels..also..

But can you suggest me a site where i can get the review of the digi cams with pictures shoot by them...

I think it narrows down to :-
(1)Canon PowerShot A530 - 5.0 MP & 4X Opitcal Zoom priced around 10k
(2) Sony DSC S500 Digital Camera has 6.0 Megapixel and 3X Optical Zoom priced around 10K.

My frnd opted 4 Canon A530.
About reviews - I really cant suggest much . But as some1 said google it , or check mags like Better photo graphy . Also February issue of CHIP magazine has a Digicam review /Shootout as well .

If you are willing to pay around 14.5k, then the kodak c875 would be a very good option for you. I've checked this cam, and in my opinion, it gives good value for money. 5x optical zoom, 8 MP, 2.5" LCD screen, and loaded with features suitable for an amature. The cost of the cam alone is 13.2k, and the extra cost would be for the SD/MMC memory card ('coz it's only got 32 mb of internal space) and rechargeable battery (this is another -ve point for this cam, no internal rechargeable battery).
If this option is an absolute no, then the Sony DSC-S500 is a good option (but again you'd have to shell out extra for a Sony Memory Stick, with ~24mb internal memory). You could also ask for a Nikon L1 or L2 (L1 could overshoot your budget). I also did see some Canon cams, don't remember the models though, and I thought a 4x optical zoom model (maybe an A530) was a good one at 10k.
