Startup Delays

We'll I've just upgraded to INTEL C2D 2.4 Ghz & Intel P31 Mobo with 2Gb 800 FSB Kingston & 320 GB WD
I've Avast installed with ZoneAlarm
I think that these two are slowing my PC down a bit .Please Comment (Dont wanna change them)
Please tell me how to speed up my boot (its usually around 45 seconds +)

Question 1 :
Should SATA be Native or Legacy
What's difference b/w both

Question 2 :
Why I get speeds slow in SATA transfer (even after I disconnect all PATA devices)
Its usually 20 MB/s
Is it normal or should it be more than that
if someone can recon a benchmarking software that doesn't take too long I'll be glad to post my results
