SPDIF - What is it and how to use it if its present on a laptop?

just wanted to inquire what is spdif and how could it be used if already present like in mine (hp dv9339us)

It is some sort of digital audio connector. I do not think you can use it unless you have some seriously high end audio hardware like high breed home theater .
