Sony claims to be a “twin” of Apple

Now, now, this is just plain pathetic. Everyone is aware that Apple is flying high these days—their competitors painfully so. It seems that Sony is just a tad envious of Apple’s remarkable successes in recent years and their firmly established image as the most hip and happening cool brand in the industry. In an attempt to get a piece of the same sort of attention, they have published an entry on the Sony Electronics Blog comparing the two companies and trying to draw parallels between themselves and Apple.

I think it is fairly clear from that essay that Sony is forlorn and desperate at having lost the title of being one of the coolest and most innovative companies in the world. The unprecedented dominance of the iPod music players and the minority market share of the once-iconic Walkman brand is starting to hurt and they seem to be running out of ideas. Read more...

Just read their blog entry. Like I said, it sounds "pathetic". Shame on them!

Well after the prices were slashed for PS3...for the first time in Japan PS3 sales were more compared to Wii for November or December(I have forgotten)...Only after 2-3 years they can make a profit since the cost of production was also an issue and now it must be a bit cheaper to produce

<offtopic>AFAIK both Sony and Microsoft are selling their respective consoles at a loss. Only Nintendo is making profit with the Wii and that too lots of it. Man two years back i'd have never guessed Wii to be such a runaway success. Infact I wasn't even considering it among the 'next generation' brigade. I thought it'll be just another GameCube and that people will never buy the idea of doing actual physical work to play. But just look at it today, a runaway success.<offtopic>

I've read somewhere that both Sony and Microsoft are selling their consoles at a loss. As for the 360 it was very lucky since it always had a healthy supply of good games right from the begining which overshadowed its shortcomings. Unfortunately for PS3 the good games never came. Some of the games like DMC4, MGS4 which were promised even before the launch of PS3 are yet to see the light of day. The lack of games is what really killed the PS3 and not its price contrary to popular belief.

The lack of games cpuled with the Price is the reason i see .

Also , the 360 wasn't "Lucky" , programing for the Xbox 360 is much more easier and with the Unified Shader Architexture(the PS3 stil uses old Separate vertex and pixel shaders) the Xbox 360 GPU was more powerful and thus developers choose to develop on it .

I think the lack of games was the reason the PS3 failed. If there had been good games people would've bought it regardless the price. But since the games were mostly mediocre or available on 360 at a lower price they didn't bother with the PS3.

And 360 was infact lucky. The original XBOX was similar to the 360 when it came to develop games for it. But it wasn't as lucky and developers instead preferred to make games for the PS2 which, just like PS3, was more difficult to write games for. But when the 360 came most developers took to it like duck to water because of writing games for it was similar to the familiar Windows. But they never really bothered with the PS3 giving lame excuses about the difficulties and how they can unlock only 20% of the performance, blah blah blah...

@krazyfrog , Developers are not making excuses for writing games for PS3 , it is a genuine problem .

Xbox 360 uses the DirectX API for programming games and as most developers know DirectX they feel right at home writing games for the PS3 .

But the PS3 has a very unconventional architecture and the developers will have to learn a whole new technology before they can start making games for PS3 and they can't afford to waste that much time just learning PS3 programming when they can write games for the 360 using DirectX which they already know .

Also , the X360 API far more object-oriented and easier to program , just have a look at XNA Game Studio and then try programming with OpenGL , you'll know what i mean .
