There is nothing extreme in this tutorial, All these techniques are easy to implement and highly effective. :p
Permalinks
By default, WordPress gives out ugly post URLs that read like database entries. For example, a typical WordPress post URL would be something like this:
*www.freakitude.com/?p=n (where n is the post number)
Wordpress has an inbuilt feature called permalinks to output clean urls. Permalinks will use the Apache server’s mod_rewrite module to put clean URLs like *www.freakitude.com/year/month/day/post_name .
You can activate permalinks by visiting options available in your wordpress backend or dashboard.
Google Sitemaps
Here i am not talking about general sitemaps. I am talking about XML sitemaps, its a Protocol that allows you to inform search engines about URLs on your websites that are available for crawling. a Sitemap that uses the Sitemap Protocol is an XML file that contain links to all your posts and pages that you want the search engine to crawl and include in its database.
You can use Google Sitemap Generator Plugin for wordpress to generate sitemaps for you wordpress blog. Then you have to verify your website and submit your sitemaps to google. You can do that through *www.google.com/webmasters/sitemaps.
Use Technorati Tags
Technorati tags is a cool way to get traffic from technorati, tagjag and other similar websites. There are many plugins available for technorati tagging. Some plugins like Ultimate Tag Warrior are too complicated for novice users, i prefer using a plugin called Simple Tags. It allows you to create a list of Technorati tags at the bottom of your post by providing a comma separated list of tags between the [tags] tags. You can download simple tags plugin from here.
Feed Submissions
By default, WordPress comes with various feeds. Many people use various online and offline feed readers to automatically look for new content. Also many blog tracking websites use these feeds to get latest content from websites.
You can submit your website’s RSS feed to various Feed Directories. List of all famous feed directories and links to their submission pages can be found here and here
Links from Other Websites
The search engine page rank of your website is decided by the number of incoming links from other quality websites. You can ask your friends to link to your website from their websites. Or you can use reciprocal links . You can use various SEO forums to search for people intersted in Link Exchange.
If you think your website is based on a very unique topic and there is a wiki running on that topic, you can try including your link in the External Links section of that wiki.
Note: Don’t spam wikipedia entries. Wikipedia users and editors are smart enough and only quality links are there to stay.
Blog Directories
Submit your blog to various blog directories. This is an easy way to get backlinks. You can search for Blog directories on google.
Content is the King
You may have heard this line many times before, so keep blogging. Blog about the things you like.
Enjoy !! :p
