Scanner as Barcode Reader!!!!

I came to know that a scanner may be used as a bar code reader. How to do it and what software is required for the same?

cann't exactly remember but in coreldraw there is a similar program. Pl. check and let me know in this forum.

i believe you can scan the bar code as an image and put it in a bar code reader libe abbyy finereader.......
i have a scanner but i have not tried it...ill try it and tell you
