require urgent help on windows updates

hi guys my comp has been acting up lately and i think i may need to reinstall win xp. currently my windows is all patched up with sp2 n everything but i fear i may loose all the upsates after reinstalling.
PLZZZ TELL ME HOW TO BACKUP WINDOWS UPDATES.PLZ

go to the drive where windowsXP is installed. go to windows\software distribution

backup the folder named download
