create a file and post d foll code in it
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\DriveIcons\X] @=""

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\DriveIcons\X\DefaultLabel] @="CHANGE DRIVE LABEL HERE"
change d 2 Xs to the corresponding drive letter of ur optical drive

in place of CHANGE DRIVE LABEL HERE put the desired name

save d file and give it any name and ext .reg

now double click on it. it will ask u if u want 2 merge. say yes

lof off and log back. u will see u optical drive with a different name

Is actually a real word..
try it again this time turn sys restore off. OR it might be permissions for HKLM (which I just tried to explain to someone on the forum)... if you're not sure about permissions.. google or search these forums or ask good ol MR. Vista, waiting to see if my walkthrough was understood or not... I 'll getback to ya ...

a little unsure... but i think windows registry maintains a cache for some entries :

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\MUICache
