Hi Friends

I Wanted To Buy A 1GB DDR2 RAM So I Went To The Store I Asked For It They Showed Transcend 1GB DDR2/800 RAM. But They Asked Me Weather 800 Is Sutiable For My PC. But I Didn't Know What Is That 800. Is It Sutiable For My PC How To Know That ?

Also Pls Tell Me What Is That 800

Due To That I Didnot Buy That RAM.

Thanks

Get CPUz from here. Open the zip file and run cpuz.exe. Go to Mainboard tab and note down Manufacturer and Model. Go to here. and put Manufacturer and Model into search box. Look for the (official) page giving details of mother board. Open the page and see if DDR2 800 (or PC2-6400) is supported or not. OR give Mainboard and model details to the hardware vendor.

If you still need any help, we are always here :)

Legen-wait for it-dary!
800 Mhz is the clock speed, or the frequency of the ram. As yogesh said, you can use CPUZ to find out the frequency, and see what are supported by your motherboard.

^Attached file is not opening here...Didn't you try with CPU Z? Atleast specify your motherboard brand and model so that we can give answers..

I want to suggest you to buy 800 MHz Ram. If you will buy 800 mhz ram then it will also help you in the future when you go for your system up gradation.

As i here Intel D946GZ motherboard support 667 MHz Ram. This means if you use 667 mhz Ram or 800 Mhz Ram, Your system uses Ram' s Capability according to its Motherboard support.
So your Motherboard will use 800 MHz Ram on 667 MHz without problem.

@varad
sorry..I didn't see your post properly..Your motherboard doesn't support 800Mhz RAM as you can see here.
And as said like Amir.php it might support 800Mhz..Why to take risk..And if you already have 667Mhz RAM in one of your slots,it's advisible to have same frequency RAM...

Now Try The Attachment It Will Work

First You See The Attachment

When I Saw The Overview On The Intel's Webiste

There Is Something Called FSB Support What Is That?

FSB support - 1066/800/533 MHz

Can You Tell Me What Is That

Is It Related To RAM>

THANKS

FSB is directly related with RAM. You need to check from the CPU section (of CPUz) the FSB on which your system is running.

Now Try The Attachment It Will Work

First You See The Attachment

Attachment still not working...

Screenshots from CPU, Mainboard, Memory, and SPD sections will be helpfull.

Ok, your m/board does not support DDR2 800 and the module you have now is DDR2 667. So you should go for DDR2 667 a.k.a. PC2-5300.

I want to suggest you to buy 800 MHz Ram ... As i here Intel D946GZ motherboard support 667 MHz Ram ... So your Motherboard will use 800 MHz Ram on 667 MHz without problem.
I've no idea if this is true.

If you already have a DDR2 667 ram and you are interested in combining the new ram with old one, then it will be more better to buy same 667 mhz ram. and if possible use same brand.
My previous suggetion was upon only one ram. i have tried it and you can use it without any fear.

Ok I Have Found This On Intels Site

*img2.freeimagehosting.net/image.php?1dd7726928.jpg

And This Too

*img2.freeimagehosting.net/image.php?ba829c1fde.jpg

As Yogesh Said FSB Is Directly Related To Ram The First Attachment Shows FSB 1033/800/533

But The Second Page Is Showing Something Else

But Both The Attachments Are From Intel's Site

I said "related" not "dependent".

Quoting Wikipedia (Source)
the Front Side Bus (FSB) is the data transfer bus that carries information between the CPU and the northbridge of the Motherboard.
So, speaking very loosely, FSB speed is at what data travels to/from CPU and the northbridge (which usually controls AGP and memory).

Your m/board supports FSB speed of "1033/800/533MHz" means you can pair it with a processor which runs on bus spped of 1033/800/533. But your current processor supports FSB speed of 800 MHz only, so your system is running on FSB speed of 800 MHz (as you can verify from CPUz).

And now explanation why i said that "FSB Is Directly Related To Ram"
Reference from the m/board's technical reference: -
Regardless of the DIMM type used, the memory frequency will either be equal to or less than the processor system bus frequency. For example, if DDR2 667 memory is used with a 533 MHz system bus frequency processor, the memory will operate at 533 MHz.
Though in your case this does not apply, but I didn't have your full sys. conf. at the time I posted.

Regards.

So What Do You Say

I Have At Present 1 GB DDR2 / 667 MHz RAM

I Should Add One More 1 GB DDR2 / 667 MHz RAM

Or Should Buy Only 2GB DDR2 RAM

2GB RAM is more than enough if you are running XP..Though Vista works fine on 2GB RAM you can't expect the same performance as XP.
