[RAM] 512 MB or 256+256 ?

my 256 RAM has broken down. wanna upgrade to 512. shall i go for a single 512? or two 256 will be better? or doesnt make any diff?

most of the vendors suggest hynix? will that be ok?

approx price?

ps - what is difference betwn sd and ddr rams?

Just one quick note. Make sure your motherboard supports a single 512MB RAM module. Refer the other thread for information on whether you need 1x512 or 2x256. My advice, if you're not planning to do a heavy duty upgrade, go for the 2x256. If you're planning on uprading soon enough, go for a 1x512. You dont want to take up more RAM slots in case you wanna upgrade. Hynix will offer good enough performance at its cost. If you want a higher performance RAM and are willing to spend more, then go for a Transcend.

I maybe some late on this, but just wondering if your motherboard/processor supported dual-channel memory. If it did, you might think of 256x2 rather than 512x1.
