i have the dell inspiron 9100 which is a lower cost alternative 2 the XPS-main difference is that the XPS uses the P4 extreme edition while 9100 uses the normal prescott....but at least in the US, dell has replaced the 9100 with the 9200 which has a centrino

For me the best performing laptop would be the Acer Ferrari. Havn't seen any better laptop than that till now. Otherwise Dell is also having some good performing laptops in its stable.

Yeah nemesis is right the Area 51m 7700 is a gr8 performer but for a hefty price tag of arnd 2300$. 
the acer ferrari series is actually pure eye candy
performance wise its nuthin to write home about
i mentioned it for a stupid reason
but i admit it doesnt compare to the other laptops in sheer performance
dont get me wrong its a "good" performer
but mainly its the features and the looks that makes this one a covetted buy !!
