Who stole my Alpaca!
Now I think this may be way off topic but here goes. What languages or development tools are used for creating programs in Linux. lets say person A would like to make his own distro.. or lets say an MP3 player or a CD player or some kind of application on any distro. Also does the tools vary from one distro to another? Could anyone point me to a link or give me some information about the above.

Thanks in advance

The Defacto programming language preferred for GTK, GTK+ based applications is C
The Qt based KDE applications insist on pure C++

but that does not stop you from using any other languages for GUI development. You can use gtk/qt wrappers to build your apps in other languages like say Python .

You may also use Athena or TCL/Tkinter toolkits to build GUIs.
