PSP UMD format cracked; game ISOs appear

"Another step forward in the race to crack open the PSP: Paradox has worked out how to get a dump from a UMD disc, and has released the ISO files for several PSP games (Wipeout: Pure US, Ridge Racers Japanese, and Vampire Chronicles: The Chaos Tower Japanese). Also of note, UMD discs use the standard ISO9669 format, so the released ISOs can be burned to regular CDs or DVDs. Know that the games are not yet playable in this format, but it’s a big step forward now that all the reverse engineers out there can get their hands on this stuff."

Until they can find a way to burn UMDs or get emulators to play the games on a PC, the PSP is safe.

why need title?
and even if they find the emulators i dont think it will be as popular as other emulators.. cos its almos few yrs since PS2 came and till now there is no good emulator for it.. so it will take a long time by which psp will become a cheap commodity and who knows sony may bring in a PSP2 or more!

In the zone
UMD Media

The only hurdle is to get the UMD Media and start burning on it. Though UMD Burners is another question. Or will they work on CD/DVD Burners?

The same case was with GameCube's GB-ROM Media. But it got cracked, eventually.

dude no one wants a PSP emulator, the games are no way comparble to the PS2, XBOX, PC titles

its just good becoz it so small and brings in a new dimension to portable gaming

the reason y all the people even those who buy genuine games . are very annoyed by the fact tht the PSP games cost nearly 1/3rd the price of the gadget

its just not affordable and no one buys it just to play ridgeracer :p

Sourabh, games don't cost that high in other places. Here, games cost around $40-50 compared with the PSP price of $249.

People use GBA emulators on their PCs as they get to play GBA games without a GBA. Of course it's illegal. UMD is a proprietary format and no burners exist outside of the game manufacturers

BTW, GameCube uses mini-DVDs and not GB-ROMS.
