I had been working with some excel files, when suddenly the program hanged and closed..!! Now whenever I try to open an excel file I get the following messages..
"Please wait while Windows configures Microsoft Office XP Professional with FrontPage.."

"The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package PROPLUS.MSI in the box below."

"Error 1706. Setup cannot find the required files."

What is the solution.. I do not have an Office XP CD.. :( The same problem occurs even when opening the files in OOo..

Can someone upload the file for me..??

This is the file in the Ofice Setup, which is required to complete the installation!

Whenever we install Office, it stores a copy of the Setup in "Windows\Installers" folder, so that it can be used whenever we add/remove any feature in Office.

I think those temporary files hv been removed from ur computer and hence u need now a Office Setup CD! :)

thanks vishal for the reply.. I have solved the problem.. :D
Went to add/remove programs >>> Office XP with frontpage >>> Change >>> Add/remove components >>> did nothing..selected the update option >>> exit

It didn't ask for a CD..!! Now working fine.. Mods can close this thread..

no, the installer doesn't copy files to windows\installer. it copies to <root>\config.msi folder. if that folder is manually deleted when we keep the "keep installation files" ticked, we get this kind of error. this file - proplus.msi is also copied onto the folder when any service pack is installed.

Just open "%windir%\installer" folder and u'll get many *.msp files there, these files r stored by Windows installers whenever u install a software which use it ;)

Here u'll also get a msp file for office :)
