u can do project on using micro controller in networking and RFID sensor in any online application database setting or here some ebooks website try it

You might wanna try creating a firewall system .. It will help you to learn more as you'd be working on packet level ..

Yeah while searching on networking hot topics few days i too come up with firewalls & IDS (intrusion detetction system)...
Can good tutorial site which can help me understand them from scratch...
