I have a dual boot XP pro and Win 98 SE. I had no problems till recently.
1) The XP takes too much time to boot. I have even disabled startup items expect AVG antivirus.
2) If there is a cd in the cd-rom drive, it takes double time to boot.

Did u install SP2 for XP ? My startup time almost doubled after installing it. SP2, like all other service-packs, deleted all files in my Prefetch folder, and after that no prefetch files were being created. If that is th case, then u shud slipstream SP2 into XP and do a repair install. Also try Bootvis to decrease startup time.
