I recently bought a headset. The speakers are working fine but when i tried to test the mic using sound recorder on Windows XP ...the mic doesn't seem to work. I tried the same on my friends PC but the mic worked fine there. Another notable issue was that the sliding bar of the sound recorder didn't move forward when i pressed the record button.

Also when i tried the sound recorder on LINUX (gnome-sound-rec) it crashed.
I suspect there is some hardware problem. Any suggestions?? how to solve or detect the problem?

I have an Intel D845GLVA motherboard, no additional sound cards.

I dont know about ur board. In my Asus is a 7.1 with Line In & Mic.

Asus has automatic jack. That is it can switch the jack to either Mic or Line or some other channel depending upon the device.

But due to driver issue it was having some trouble.

Now solved. Try checking your Manual and the Intel Website.

Are u sure u plugged ur mic in the right jack?
There's no problem with ur mic as it is workin fine on ur fren's comp.

To rectify it:
Go to the volume tab (there'll be a speaker icon in the notification area).
Here, go to Options>Advanced Controls
Now, u'll be able to see more tabs.
Simply increase the volume of the "Line In" tab.

If this does'nt rectify ur problem, try finding help in the windows' built-in help feature.
