My existing setup here it is in a nutshell:--
1> Prescott P4 2.80E GHz with HT processor
2> Hynix 512MB DDR RAM running at 400MHz
3> Intel D865GBF Motherboard sporting latest BIOS update released on 2006
4> Samsung 80GB SATA HDD running at 7200rpm

This time it will be my 2nd upgrade. So i wanna add a little xtra rather than the usual bells n whistles. I crave for:--
1> Quad Core processor (to be a bit future-proof)
2> Capable Motherboard for the above
3> i want to keep my HDD, so the motherboard shud support SATA interface
4> If n only if possible i’d like to keep my RAM (DDR interface)
5> Graphics Card coz this time it must play HD content smoothly nd needless to mention handle all my video rendering equally well. U no making a DVD Video. Plus if i ever install Vista, it shud run smooth.
6> Oh and if i have to change the RAM then which make to buy and which model

I need to upgrade in the most inexpensive n cost-effective way. So do post the prices of the individual parts. Also if nebody interested to buy my DDR RAM module if i have to change it, plz do write here.
It will be really nice nd highly appreciated if u can suggest a way to buy the proccy, motherboard and graphics card within 20K

Isn't there ne other options xcpt Abit. I no its been referred in this forum to others a lot but just not tried & tested. It does not even appear in the Digit Tests.

Thanks for the DP35DP but r there no other offerings from MSI, ASUS, etc?

Next i am not into the GPU market heart n soul. So i hav a problem understanding the difference between 9600GSO and 9600GT. Plus some say that 8800 nd its versions r better than 9600. Is it true? Plz giv me the stats.

Finally, i believe that it is DDR2 RAM

DP35DP cant be overclocked at all and its performance is no good.a Quad core proccy gives true performance only when oc'ed.so forget any intel mobo within that range.

Abit IP35 E is good and you can check the reviews on the internet. From MSI u can get P35 NEo 2 but it might cost a little more.still Abit is a better choice.
Ram is DDR2.

9600 GSO - 9series card that performs same as 9600GT when overclocked.8800GT performs better than 9600Gt but costs ~12k

Thanks nish_higher for the info

Yeah i want a better board this time. So Intel is my last trusted preference.

How come 9600 cards r priced less than 8800 cards ???

Nxt, r u sure all these will come within the 20K bracket ?

Q6600 - 9700
Palit 9600GSO - 6500
Abit IP35E - 5200

Total 21400 ..remember that these are internet prices and actual should be less.

8800 performs better than 9600's so the price is high

Intel OCer
if u can spend like 12k on a gfx card then ud better w8 for the 4850...its supposed to cost 200$~8k..with taxes 12k and it outperforms the 8800gt by 40%

Isn't any other brand of 9600GSO available? Palit isn't that good in terms of customer service AFAIK.

actually palit offers better warranty here in india than xfx or asus.and i don't think 9600gso is manufactured by any other company.my opinion-go with it.u won't have any problems.and considering that u need a card for rendering work , i won't suggest spending 13k on a graphics card unless its a quadro or firegl

hey nish_higher i've got nothing agenst u. But looking at ur rig's config u r nothing but a biggie. Do consider us "the less fortunates".
Neway thanks 4 all ur suggestions and ur time man.

Back to bizness.
Wen u say rendering work, well yes i do. I use Nero Vision a lot if not industry like softwares. So encoding's on the list. Next do keep in mind i will watch HD Content. Movies for one, game/movie trailers, Some games like NFS, etc...And most importantly run Windows Vista Home Premium(later on).
Currently i have onboard graphics and my monitor is 8yrs old. So altho i hav 512MB DDR RAM, the system doesnt get it full as the graphics sub-system shares it. I think u get the picture. I want a separate graphics department and an able one.

Xpecting reply of whoever sees this

for anything other then games an 8400GS or ATI 3450 is enuf (HD movies, vista, Encoding speed depends on Processor not on grfx card.) If u plan to game on ur pc then u shld go for :
8600 GT if ur Display is less than or equal to 17"
9600 GSO if its more than 17"
and bout MOBO and Proccy, Nish higher's config is best for ur needs.

price dif between 8600GT and 9600 GSO shld be around 2 k , so if u select 8600 GT then u can buy DDR2 memory (as this mobo dnt support DDR)
2 X 1GB 800 Mhz transcend/kingston/zion will cost u around 2k.

u got me wrong.i meant NOT to spend that much on a gfx card as its going to be a waste of money. :p

anyways check this 9600GSO
*www.palit.biz/main/vgapro.php?id=664#spec

its a very good card, got an aftermarket cooler which is awesome and u can OC this card pretty well.so i'd suggest u go for this.
palit staff is very helpful.i had an issue with a motherboard's bios (P35A) and i was lucky to get a unreleased bios within 6hrs.
all other companies would want u to send the board back to them.
