I would say :
AMD Athlon X2 4200+.........11k
ASUS A8NE..........5500
2x512 DDR good one........5500
XFX 7600GT..........11000
----------------------------------
I would recoment AMD 4200+ over E6300 as My 4200+@2.6 beats ene E6400 with ease. And ASUS A8NE is really ..really a very nice board..beast in features, stability, perfomance nd overclocking nd package contends...all this in 5.5k

4200+0c can do in most benchmarks. The only downside is DDR1 comapared to Intel's DDR800MHZ. If u use good DDR at 2-3-3-5 or soethin nd oc it upto sat 460 or higher AMD could do better.
But 4200 is much cheaper tha an 6400 nd the mobo is also much cheaper nd u can even get a good SLI mobo for AMD for as low as 6.5k.

see the screenshot nd see the perfomance is so near the core 2 extreme 6800.
Will shoot up my CPU to 2.7 or higher nd will post more screenshots.

AFAIK Core 2 Duo should be 400-800MHz or more ahead of AMD.
ie. If X2 4200 is clocked at 2.6, it may just be a rival to E6400 at best.
Anyway, E6400 is overclockable as well, and once you overclock it, AMD can't win.

I am assuming that you are not look for a gaming solution.

E6400 - 10500, for overclocking
else E6300 - 9000

MSI Neo G 965 - 6500
Upgrade the mobo later
alternately get E6300 with a better mobo

2 X 512MB DDR2 667 Corsair Value select or other RAM if this is not supported
